Nikon Coolpix P90
Since yesterday I have finally! Nearly 200 photos and the new pride of ownership, of course not sufficient to make a serious assessment – but may be interested in the first impression.
Who the Coolpix P90 is the first time in his hand, feels the Lumix FZ28 recalls. Slightly larger and slightly heavier, but the visual and haptic as a solid and high quality as their famous “sister” from Panasonic. Because of the wider lens, it is not quite as grippy, but it still fits comfortably in your hand. The case is meticulously crafted and proves that plastic is not like “plastic feel”. The arrangement of the buttons and wheels I believe to be user-friendly and tidier than the competition. The menu structure is clear and concise, and the data are very easy to read.
Which, of course you will notice is the “huge” flip screen. Normally I prefer to use the viewfinder, but this “screen” has convinced me right away. Even at high ambient light, it provides a high contrast image. Since the monitor takes up practically the entire back, fingerprints are unavoidable, but thanks to the durable coating, they can be easily removed. It would be a “sin” when these brilliant screen with the “graying” of a display would obscure Protector!
Impressive is the huge zoom range. The short compact may enter the wide-angle lens is a larger area than the human eye. At the same time it zooms into a real “telescope”, where the camera moved out tube to grow at an impressive total length of 17 cm.
I never thought that you can still shoot beyond 500mm from the source! But the Coolpix P90 holds the image really “stable”, and you can hear how the counter vibration inside the camera compensates for the vibration. So a “real” image stabilization – not the usual in many digital cameras, “anti-shake”, in which only the ISO value is increased (in order to allow a shorter recording time)!
In the subject programs I was next to the usual standards today, especially “copy document” with conviction. I find the program useful, “Museum”, which can also be a church wedding set “flash-” in the right image. The recording of voice notes to individual pictures, I would use soon in the holidays certainly.
Ingeniously simple, the program is shifting (shifting!) With the handy mode dial. The practice replaced the S-and A-automatics and automatics opens up many design possibilities, without having to change the program needs.
True it’s fun to shoot picture series, with one in his enthusiasm about the high-speed mode, however, should not forget that you very quickly drift into a “heady” ISO range.
Too bad that the battery charge level is only displayed when the battery is almost empty! The competition is better. Also the zoom goes with the P90, unfortunately, not as fluid and precise as with the FZ28. That you take a detour for some default settings via the menu must be also not seen as “progress.” Also, I wonder how (and if at all?) Be attached to this lens is a lens hood. In the P90-enhancement is offered, interestingly, no sunscreen.
Unique advantages of the P90 are:
- The huge zoom range
- The big screen
- The good image stabilization.
That the P90 and everything else can be better than the competition, I can not (yet? Not recognize). But after a critical examination of the first results I get the impression that the camera with the fact that push is now a proud 12 million pixels on the tiny image sensor, get along quite well.
The camera does what! It has everything I need – and much more!
I think that the Coolpix P90 has the potential for 5 stars.
