Canon EOS 5D Mark II SLR-Digital Camera 21 Megapixel

reviews

I have been photographing since 6 years as an ambitious amateur. My path started with DSLR, the Canon 10D over the 30D, it was far to the 5D, the 5D Mark II The update, which I have been eagerly awaiting, while there were some things to improve the already good at 5D. Where we must also clearly say, has renewed the Canon 5D MK II is not at all.

The question of whether to buy a full frame or APS-C or-H format, everyone must decide for themselves. I photograph mainly portrait, fashion, street, travel and architecture. Sports and animals in the wild, etc. where there is very rapid and / or distant objects, are with me the exception. Therefore, I decided several years ago for the full frame 5D, and the series.

After 2 weeks of intensive testing with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, here are my review and some comparisons to classical 5D:

Housing:
After unpacking already came the first positive impression of the Geh?usehaptik. The camera feels sturdy and grip than its predecessor. It is probably due to trivalent grooves on the magnesium casing. The turning wheels have more resistance and raced richer book. To ensure the welfare of improving their quality measure for the new moisture protection. The CF card door is still plastic, but they lock into place better and ends of a continuum. The control buttons have been changed only slightly in your position and function. Thus, there is now the display light button near the shutter release button (for me as logical to use) and the “delete” key is now as the lowest button on the control buttons on the left slipped from the display. (Warning to all old 5D user, this is the position where previously the “picture show was” key. KEYB Please quickly, or pictures are gone!)
The depth-has now been moved laterally under the lens lock. While this allows for better usability when shooting, but something bothers me in the operation of the camera in “Live View” mode, as can easily be accidentally pressed the button. Here I have to get used to yet another holding the camera.

Display:
Apart from the upper camera display (LCD display), on which now FINALLY the ISO value is displayed (and now also in the viewfinder!) Has been installed, the large and razor sharp 3 “screen. That alone would almost reason enough for the update . It’s bright, sharp and colors are very good again. The automatic brightness control of the display at varying ambient light is also helpful. The menu structure is now divided into different folders, and so for me a logical and fast to use. The number of setting options with the additional Features also grown.

Viewfinder:
In direct comparison to like me, the new Canon EOS 5D viewfinder better. I regard him as a bit bigger, brighter and with better coverage of the image area. Especially when wearing glasses, I’m delighted by this improvement, since the field of vision is restricted by the lens anyway (distance to the viewfinder).

Autofocus and metering:
Here, the 5D Mark II has not really changed. The AF seems to be identical to that of the 5D to be. This is a very common criticism of read, since there was no improvement. I would be an improvement of the AF was also not averse (eg near the center, the other fitted data points as cross-type sensors), but in my area of operation was the AF of the 5D always sufficient and accurate enough, since I mostly use the center sensor in my work . Here, Canon takes a different route than Nikon AF Treat their professional and high-quality amateur cameras. Canon then refers rather to a different camera system, such as the professional 1D Mark III or the cheaper 50D with better AF and faster continuous shooting mode.
Canon’s new 5D but a micro-lens donated correction. This can be very individual the focal point of the lenses readjusts (frontal or back focus correction). I have taken the time and einjustiert my lenses. And especially with the bright lenses, which have only a very narrow aperture at focus range, I can achieve more accurate results! Moreover even the Live View function that an examination of the focus very reliable indication of sharpness.
The exposure seems to be identical to the old 5D to be. I find them in the Mark II just as accurate as I am used to. The white balance has, however m.E. improved somewhat. Indoors, I get a little more accurate values, but this is currently a feeling and not a scientific comparison.

All in all, my evaluation from my point of view and for my purpose in school grades 1 —

Advantages:
+ Better Housing
+ Better viewfinder
+ Much Better Display
+ Bessres menu control
+ Sensor Cleaning
+ AF Microadjustment of lenses
+ Live View
+ 3 Custom Function Memory
+ Very high resolution with good lenses
+ Color and dynamic range in RAW files are larger than the 5D
+ 1 – 1.5 stops better ISO noise behavior
+ Video opportunity for professionals

Cons:
- AF is not enhanced by further cross-type sensors
- AF in video mode insufficient (Kontrastbasier because mirror is flipped up)
- Auto ISO does not adequately classifiable
- ISO sensitivity do not seem to be entirely accurate. I suspect that ISO is 200, in reality rather 150th That’s a little window dressing. The old 5D had come closer to the real value.
