Canon EOS 500D SLR-15 Megapixels

reviews

I own the Canon EOS 500D for a good two weeks now and have taken at this time about 800 pictures and movies. Now it is time to draw conclusions.

So far, I photographed with a Canon EOS 30D (and will continue to do so!) And an old EOS 20D. The latter now had the 500D soft (yes, I like to use two cameras, one with wide-angle lens, the other with a telephoto).

The Canon EOS 500D in many respects a great advance in other respects, at least a small improvement.

The picture quality is generally quite good, as I expect it from a Canon EOS. At ISO100 noise is virtually no detectable, even ISO200 is eigenlich just as well. At ISO400, however, we have noticed a certain deterioration of image quality, which, however, makes image editing with more get a grip. ISO800 is compared with older Canon EOS at least the same in terms of the noise. This also applies to the higher ISO values. The 500D is now offering up to legendary ISO12800. ISO6400 is – if you do not too much into the picture zooms out – for 15MP on an APS-C chip very well, while rushing ISO12800 even at screen size very well, with careful noise reduction can be so good but get a grip.
After all, is now possible in such extreme sensitivity shooting in almost total darkness. It has ranging from a few street lights. It is recommended that in case of doubt overexposing anything, because pushing on the computer is not as recommended because the noise it extremely increased.
Who would have it better, probably have to buy the 5D MKII – which is of course quite a bit more expensive.

The JPEGs directly from the camera are certainly very useful. With Tonwertpriorit?t and the automatic brightening (Autolight Optimizer) is usually required no more Nachberarbeitung. On older cameras, I often had to resort to F?llicht to get the images brighter – this saves you here now. Anyway, it’s very restful, not having to reprocess all the images. With a sharpness of 4-5, the images are also enough “crunchy”.

Of course you can also use RAW. However, this suggests each image with 18-27MB to book. Here one ought to use a large enough memory card. RAW offers more flexibility to Nachberarbeitung – but can not necessarily get more details.

In direct comparison to the 30D, I must say, though, that makes the 500D is definitely no better images, at least not in the area to ISO1600. I see only advantages in the higher sensitivity and better at the JPEGs directly from the camera (here, the 30D is not quite as good, and RAW has many advantages).
The advantages of 14-bit, extols the Canon, I could not find even with the 500D. Neither she nor better able to absorb the colors where they showed better grades, as is claimed happy.

For the 500D, you should absolutely use good lenses. The 18-55mm IS indeed perform according to various measurements quite well, but it disappointed me somewhat in use at the 500D. With the 17-40mm L, I definitely get better results. The 70-300mm IS USM cuts off at the 500D very good.

What should be considered: the 15MP APS-C on the chip should not be too dim. From aperture 8 of the unsightly effect is the diffraction blur. This may be, at least for certain situations (landscape) is important.
